It is easier than you think to put a smile on a senior's face. All you have to do is be a Friendly Visitor. A Friendly Visitor is someone who brightens someones day, week, month, and ultimately, their life by paying them visits at their homes. You will be matched with a homebound senior that has a similar personality, similar interests, and similar hobbies and meet with them each week for about an hour. The goal is to diminish some of the isolation the senior may be experiencing and for a new friendship to blossom in the process. A visit may consist of listening to music, going to a coffee shop, or maybe even visiting a museum. Many of the friendly visiting volunteers have been visiting the same senior for a number of years and have expressed that it feels like having another family member. You can have this experience too as a Friendly Visiting volunteer!

Description
Encore Community Services is a multi-purpose, not-for-profit, nonsectarian agency serving the needs of poor, frail, homebound, mentally impaired and homeless elderly. Founded in 1977, Encore provides services to more than 14,000 elderly men and women annually. Services include: congregate, home-delivered & weekend meals, shop & escort service, friendly visiting, holiday meals, educational & recreational activities, telephone assurance, health & social services counseling, supportive housing for formerly homeless and mentally impaired eldely. These services are provided at the Encore 49 Residence and Encore Senior Center, located at St. Malachy's, The Actors' Chapel.
