We always need new volunteers! The Whittier Area Literacy Council, Inc. is seeking volunteers for basic literacy or English as a Second Language tutors. There are many kids who fall through the cracks and need help in English. We want to help as many as possible and we need YOU. Community volunteers can help children succeed in school and adults reach their career or life goals. We provide training and materials so no teaching experience is required. You must have a high school diploma and be 18+ to volunteer with us. Training sessions for prospective tutors are a mix of online courses and in-office training at the council office which is located at Calvary Baptist Church, 6548 Newlin Ave., Whittier, CA 90601. Tutors and students are asked to commit two hours a week for a year and may elect to work with children or adults. Come join us in making a difference in our community.
