We need bilingual Haitian Creole-speaking tutors to support the users of our free pubic access computer center. Our tutors work one-on-one with the clients to assist them in learning about and using the computer. Tutoring sessions are 1/2 to 1 hour, scheduled in advance. Topics typically covered include Windows, Web-based email, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Most students are just becoming familiarized with computers, but sometimes there are requests for more advanced topics. Typically we need bilingual Haitian Creole-speaking tutors in the evenings between 6-8 pm or in the afternoon between 12-3 pm.
We also need Haitian Creole-speaking tutors to support the students in our special SkillStep Program that provides technology training classes for students concurrently enrolled in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes. SkillStep is a successful multi-agency program that provides coordinated language and technology training to registered students from each of the participating agencies. We need tutors to work one-on-one with students to support and reinforce classroom lessons. Tutors are needed in the mornings between 10 am-12 pm and in the evenings between 6-8 pm
Volunteer Tasks:
- Meet with individuals for scheduled tutoring appointments,
- Provide instruction to individuals on a one-on-one basis on a variety of computer topics,
- Answer questions and demonstrate computer operations in a clear and friendly manner
