Womanspace is looking for volunteers to participate in a 62-hour hybrid zoom and in-person training over seven weeks starting September, 2024 to become a Domestic and Sexual Violence Victims' Advocate on the Response Teams of Mercer County, NJ. Once trained, Team Advocates respond to local police stations and/or hospitals to meet with victim survivors of domestic and sexual violence in their time of crisis to provide resource information, referrals and emotional support, Applications are due by August 15, 2024 and can be accessed, along with more detailed information, from our website: Womanspace Inc.

Mission Statement
Womanspace, Inc. is a leading nonprofit agency in Mercer County, New Jersey, that provides a comprehensive array of services to individuals and families impacted by domestic and sexual violence and is dedicated to improving the quality of life for women and their families. Programs include crisis intervention, emergency shelter, counseling, court advocacy and housing services.
Description
Emergency Services are available to assist victims of domestic violence and sexual assault immediately following the initial crisis: the 24-hour hotline (609-394-9000 or 1-800- 572-SAFE); shelter; Domestic Violence Victim Response Teams (DVVRTs); and Sexual Assault Support Advocates.
Counseling and Support Services are provided by professionals who are trained domestic violence and sexual assault specialists. Spanish speaking counselors are available for all services provided by this program and are available regardless of ability to pay. Services also include Court Advocacy and a Legal Clinic.
Housing services foster independence and self-sufficiency for victims of domestic violence and women with developmental disabilities. There are two transitional housing programs, Barbara's House (short term, 3 - 6 month) and Next Step (long term, 1 - 2 years), as well as a Womanspace Residential Awareness Program (WRAP) which provides housing services to developmentally disabled women in supervised apartments and supportive living settings.
Education and Training works to develop a coordinated community response to domestic violence and sexual assault. Programs include Sexual Assault Advocacy and Response Team Training, Professional Training, Community Education, and Chaplaincy.

- After you have completed the 62-hour training, we ask you to sign up for a minimum of two 6-hour shifts/month and participate in one 90-minute Peer Group meeting a month.
- Volunteers must be able to get to all police stations in Mercer County, NJ in 30 minute; have a valid New Jersey Driver’s License/available transportation; and no prior history as a defendant in a sexual assault or domestic violence related matter.
