Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. They are more likely than other children to face homelessness, unemployment, even prison as adults. That's where CASA steps in. As trained advocates, CASA/VGAL volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The ideal result is that a child is safely reunified with their parent who has shown they can now meet the child's needs. When that cannot happen, the CASA advocates for a safe, stable, permanent alternative. The Snohomish County Volunteer Guardian ad Litem (VGAL) Program is a Superior Court funded volunteer organization that empowers everyday citizens as appointed representatives of the court to make a lifelong difference in the lives of abused and neglected children of Snohomish County . In an overburdened social welfare system, abused and neglected children often slip through the cracks among the hundreds of current cases. CASA/ VGALs change that. Appointed by judges, CASA/VGALs typically commit to staying on a case until the child's case is dismissed. While others may come and go, the Volunteer Guardian ad Litem often provides a consistent voice in the life of a child's case.

Description
Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. That's where CASA steps in. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) was created in 1977 to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child is placed into a safe, loving home where he/she can thrive. It is the CASA vision to provide a volunteer for each and every abused and neglected child who needs one.
