Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. Too many spend years moving from one temporary home to another. They have no family to call their own. They are more likely than other children to face homelessness, unemployment, even prison as adults. That's where CASA steps in. CASA was created to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. CASAs are trained community volunteers who are appointed by a district court judge to be the eyes and ears of the court and step into the courtroom on the children's behalf. Volunteers have the ability to focus solely on one case at a time. These dedicated volunteers follow a child or sibling group through the child welfare process and advocate for them at each interval, with no other vested interest other than what is in the best interest of that particular child. The result is that a child is placed into a safe, loving home where he/she can thrive.
