Volunteering as a coach with Girls on the Run is a life-changing experience. You share your time and energy, and help effect a positive self-image in girls ages 8-13. Our volunteer coaches are parents, coaches, runners, teachers and community members. You do not have to be a runner to be a Girls on the Run coach. The main requirement is enthusiasm!

Our volunteer coaches work with girls before or after school, leading them through the Girls on the Run-developed curriculum, stretching and running activities, and training for the end-of-season 5K run. Programs meet twice weekly for 90 minutes over a 10 week period. The program is offered twice a year from September-November (Fall Season), and February-May (Spring Season).

Head coaches are expected to attend every session. In addition, all coaches attend a National Coach Training seminar prior to the start of the season, as well as a 5K Meeting. At least one coach must also be CPR ?1st Aid Certified. Each Girls on the Run site has a head coach, and up to two assistant coaches or two Co-Coaches. Girls on the Run Head Coaches are female, and are at least 21 years of age. Assistant Coaches are male or female, at least 18 years of age. Student volunteers may serve as Junior Coaches, and must be at least 16 years of age.
