Helping Patients to Cancer Treatment

About

Do you have a flexible schedule? Do you have a car and time during the day that you could help provide a ride to cancer patients needing treatment? As a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program, you can help save a life! The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers to drive cancer patients in many counties throughout Minnesota. Every day thousands of cancer patients need a ride to treatment, but some may not have a way to get there. The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program provides transportation to and from treatment for people who have cancer and do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves. Volunteer drivers donate their time and resources to take patients to treatment and back home again. They also provide encouragement and support. Volunteer drivers are not reimbursed. To be a driver, you must have a good driving record, have a valid driver’s license, have a serviceable car with seatbelts and adequate insurance coverage. Volunteer drivers need to be emotionally stable, friendly, and compassionate. Drivers must respond to all patient ride requests in a timely fashion and follow through on all commitments. To find out if Road to Recovery Volunteer Drivers are needed in your area, please call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345.
