Befriend someone in the Phoenixville area, as part of the Compeer program. All it takes is 4 hours per month. You can make a difference in the life of an adult who's dealing with mental health challenges.
Compeer Chester County matches each volunteer with someone who is referred by a professional. These friendships boost self-esteem, reduce loneliness, and increase well-being. And they can be fun! Matched pairs spend time doing whatever safe activities they would both enjoy, such as meeting for coffee or a meal, shopping, bowling, or attending a community event. Keeping in touch by phone or text also can be part of it.
Volunteers receive training and can choose their friend. Pairs are matched up based on shared interests, location, and other factors. After you meet your friend, staff provide ongoing support. Occasional group events give you a chance to spend time with other Compeer matches too.
Through the gift of friendship, you will gain a sense of satisfaction and personal growth and have the opportunity to help another person.

Mission Statement
To connect adults who have mental health conditions with caring, trained volunteers, thereby maximizing community participation and helping people enjoy a friendship.
Description
We match community volunteers in one-to-one friendships with adults in mental health recovery who can use some extra support! Compeer Chester County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is a program of Mental Health Partnerships (mentalhealthpartnerships.org). We are also affiliated with Compeer International (compeer.org).
Sharing activities and conversation with a supportive friend has been shown to help a person with a mental health diagnosis feel more positive and hopeful -- and less isolated. Friendships build confidence and boost self-esteem, both vital for someone on their road toward recovery.
Compeer is supported by the Chester County Department of Mental Health/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (MH/IDD) and private donations.
Compeer Chester County's vision is that way people view persons with mental illness will be changed; persons in mental health recovery will feel more included in their communities, and their lives will be transformed by connecting them with one real friend.
