If you have a passion for making a lifelong difference in a child's life please consider becoming a Volunteer Child Advocate with the Guardian ad Litem program. Child Advocates are trained and supported volunteers who advocate for the best interest of children in the foster care system. A volunteer will visit with their children at least once every 30 days, talk to those involved with the child and advocate for what is in their best interest. This position takes an average of 8 flexible hours per month. Please contact us to arrange to attend a no obligation orientation session to find out if this is the right opportunity for you. The need is great in Putnam County, currently 50% of the foster children in Putnam do not have someone advocating for them, so please consider helping a child in your community. All children deserve someone to speak up for them, can you be that person?

Mission Statement

The mission of the Guardian ad Litem program is to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courts. We promote and support quality volunteer representation for children to provide each child a safe, permanent, nurturing home.

Description

Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. That's where the GAL steps in. GAL (Guardian ad Litem) was created in 1977 to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. As trained advocates, GAL volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child is placed into a safe, loving home where he/she can thrive. It is the GAL vision to provide a volunteer for each and every abused and neglected child who needs one.
