The Hayward Area Historical Society warmly invites you to help connect people, experiences and stories. Help us bring local history to life by volunteering as a School Tour Guide and gain valuable professional development skills while having fun in a relaxing, social environment!
This is a perfect fit for volunteers with an interest or background in education, who want the satisfaction of working with school groups to convey high-quality hands-on curriculum grounded in local history.
Our School Tour Guide will provide excellent experiences for school groups visiting both at our Museum on Foothill Boulevard, and at our historic properties. Current tour topics include Day of the Dead tours, McConaghy House Holiday tours, and our Gold Rush tours at Meek Estate. All materials, scripts and training will be provided. School Tour Guides will also get a unique behind-the-scenes look into a historic house and museum, and learn about local history from our museum experts!
School Tour hours are Monday-Friday, from 9 am - 2 pm.
About Hayward Area Historical Society & Museums
22392 Foothill Blvd., Hayward, CA 94541, US
The Hayward Area Historical Society joins with people of all ages in the celebration of the diverse heritage of our community. Through educational programs, interpretive exhibitions and the preservation of historic sites and artifacts, the Historical Society promotes an understanding about our shared history and the challenges of our future.
The Hayward Area Historical Society operates a museum in downtown Hayward with permanent and temporary exhibition. The facility also contains a research library and archives. In addition, the Historical Society operates the McConaghy House, a 12 room Victorian mansion where it conducts house tours and educational programs. We are in the process of restoring a second historic house that will be open to the public within the next year or two.
We'll work with your schedule.
