SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) is currently recruiting Site Coordinators for our programs in Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties. As a SMART Site Coordinator, you will lead a team of committed volunteers and make a significant contribution to your local school. Work with elementary school staff to schedule students and volunteers and to provide program oversight during reading sessions. This leadership volunteer position is an indispensable piece for creating a successful SMART program.
SMART is an early literacy nonprofit that envisions an Oregon in which every child can read and is empowered to succeed. We engage community volunteers to help PreK-third grade children become confident readers by providing one-on-one literacy support, valuable adult mentorship, and books to take home and keep.
Programs run during school hours Monday - Friday. Time commitment is 2 - 10 hours per week, depending on elementary school assignment and your availability. Programs run from mid-August through mid-May.
Opportunities available include:
- Volunteer to run a SMART program two days or five to 10 hours a week.
- Coordinate with one other volunteer; one day or two to five hours a week.
- Volunteer as part of a small team of coordinators (hours per week determined by the team).
The SMART Site Coordinator is essential to ensuring that a SMART program is able to open at a school.
