You can share your resources and compassion with families with school-aged students by putting together a backpack with school supplies for the upcoming school year.
The families are participating in our Family Housing program which provides a rental subsidy and support for families transitioning from homelessness into housing.
To get started, you decide the number of students you would like to be matched with (we anticipate the supplies will cost about $45-$65 per student).
I will match you with a family or families with the number of students you request. Families range in size from one school aged student to several. Students are in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Volunteers may request a specific grade and we'll do our best to meet your request. Next, I will send you the name, age, gender, and school supply list for each student as early as Wednesday, July 12th. Then shopping begins!
The lists are extensive and will always include a backpack. The specific school supplies will differ based on grade.
To sign up, contact Christina Giese at cgiese@simpsonhousing.org or 612.455.0859.
Backpacks with school supplies will need to be delivered to our office in South Minneapolis August 10th through August 12th. Thank you for considering this volunteer opportunity!
