Now more than ever, youth need positive role models and a listening ear. With the closure of schools and camps, many youth are eager for adult interaction and guidance. To ensure the safety of our program while still supporting youth, we are now offering virtual mentoring as a new way of mentoring in our program.
GoodGuides is a nationally accredited youth mentoring program dedicated to providing positive youth development to youth ages 12-17. Youth are paired with a volunteer from the community who serves as a positive role model, a listening ear, and someone to have fun with! GoodGuides mentors come from all ages and backgrounds - including college students, professionals, homemakers, retirees, and the military.
Our mentors commit to communicating with their youth at least 2x a month for a minimum of 1 year. Mentors can connect with their youth through phone, video conferencing (like Zoom), or texting/email. In addition to talking, they can also complete online activities together - such as online games, workout videos, craft tutorials, virtual tours, and more! Staff is there to guide you every step of the relationship. Once the weather and public health situation improve, there could also be the opportunity to connect with your youth in person later in the year.
We are currently enrolling and training mentors to begin mentoring youth in the Peoria area this year! If you think this might be a good fit for you, contact Lyndsie at 309-369-2335 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
