SCORE defines a mentor as an advisor or coach who helps another individual develop their capabilities to establish or run a business. The term "mentor" is intended to convey as sense of the long term connection sought with clients. SCORE mentors are experienced business people with specialized training that increases the quality and effectiveness of their mentoring. Mentors may have gained their body of experience in a corporate setting, may have been business owners themselves, or may have a combination of both backgrounds. SCORE mentors provide effective business advice on how to write and execute a business plan, market to customers, manage cash flow, manage personnel, or grow an existing business. SCORE clients can access SCORE’s free and confidential mentoring services face-to-face, via e-mail counseling, or in business education seminars sponsored or presented by SCORE.
