We are an organization dedicated to assisting youth that have been affected by the foster care system. We raise money to give grants to these youth for education and housing. Our organization works to provide grants to emancipating foster youth seeking to attain higher education. To date, we have given out over $300,000 in grants. We are looking for a compassionate person that is interested in serving as a grant writer and/or fundraising board member; or a board member interested in bringing creative energy to the board engaging current and new donors. This position takes about 10 hours per month. Must be available for our board meeting once per quarter (currently), and able to work independently via email frequently.

Given the nature of our board and how things are shifted within the last 2 years, we currently meet remotely. We are in the process of "board maintenance" and "board re-building", so we are accepting applications from individuals with previous Board of Directors experience only.

Mission: We believe young adults transitioning from foster care in San Francisco deserve to have the financial and emotional resources they need to build stability and success in their lives. Foster Youth Rising (formerly Friends of SF ILSP) fills gaps in the resources available to these young adults by providing grants and other opportunities in a manner that acknowledges their potential and their dignity. Mission Statement

The mission of the Foster Youth Rising (FYR) is to empower current and former foster youth to succeed in living independently after they emancipate from the foster care system. Our primary purpose is to provide scholarships for educational and vocational training and other grants for safe and stable housing as well as basic living needs.

Description

Foster Youth Rising (FYR) is a nonprofit organization, working in partnership with the San Francisco Independent Living Skills Program to make sure that young people leaving the foster care system have the support they need to succeed in living independently.

FYR helps fill the gaps in funding for emancipating foster youth by providing educational scholarships, housing and basic needs grants, college field trips and other assistance to youth (ages 16-24) who are pursuing self-sufficiency.
