Eager to become an advocate for women and children suffering from domestic violence? Family-Focused Support Gruop domestic violence advocates and counselors work in locations throughout the community to support, educate and advocate for victims of domestic abuse. Our program works to empower individuals to break free from abusive relationships, to provide resources and education for safety, healing and growth, to promote community awareness and to end the cycle of violence. Peer facilitators (survivors and volunteers) lead weekly support groups for women who have experienced or are currently experiencing domestic abuse. Groups cover a variety of topics aimed at empowerment and support for women. Spanish speakers highly encouraged to volunteer!
Familly-Focused Support Goup volunteers work with children ages 3-17 who have witnessed or experienced domestic abuse. Children participate in an 8 week group program that teaches them how to recover from abuse and become safe and strong. Volunteers co-facilitate these groups, which involves preparing agendas and activities from an approved curriculum for weekly sessions and providing a safe and supportive environment for children to express their feelings and situations comfortably. Volunteers do not act as counselors or advocates, but instead act as positive role models for children who may not have many supportive adults in their lives.
