Furniture Bank of Central Ohio

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 62 people are interested

Furniture with a Heart is the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio’s social enterprise thrift store, the first of its kind in Columbus. Furniture and other items that we sell at the thrift store represent only a small part that are donated to us. These are often larger items of furniture than the new homes our clients have moved into can accommodate (sectional couches, exercise equipment, entertainment centers, d├ęcor and art pieces, etc.). All the sales are rolled back into our mission to serve families in need. All other donations are given directly to the families we serve.

We have volunteers sort, clean, and organize non-furniture donations at our thrift store. We can take volunteer groups Mondays between 1-4 PM.

Many families in our area are affected by the economic impact of COVID-19. The Furniture Bank is one part of making a new home a possibility.
Here’s how we’re keeping volunteers safe:
Temperature screenings will be done for all staff and volunteers. Masks are required for staff, volunteers, and customers. Social distancing is in place. Volunteer areas and frequently touched areas are disinfected regularly. Masks will be provided to volunteers who do not bring their own. Volunteer areas are climate controlled.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio is to provide a free furniture for individuals and families struggling with poverty and other severe life challenges - "Turning Empty Houses Into Homes." The organization was originally "Material Assistance Providers" from 1998-2006, and "MAP Furniture Bank" from 2006-2009.

We collect gently used furniture, appliances and household items, and distribute them free of charge to families trying to move out of difficult situations, which without help, can be emotionally and financially overwhelming. Our work gives these families a better chance at establishing a permanent and nurturing home.
