Furniture Bank of Central Ohio

Help our neighbors have a nicer place to stay at home during the advisory! The Furniture Bank is an essential operation as a non-profit, and we need volunteers!

How the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio will keep our volunteers safe: Temperature screenings will be done for all staff and volunteers. Masks are required, social distancing is in place, volunteer areas will be disinfected at the end of each day, and there will be no shared tools. Masks and vinyl gloves will be provided to volunteers who do not bring their own.

Volunteers work together to assemble kitchen tables, coffee tables, end tables, and beds. Depending on need, we may also ask volunteers to help paint, sand, rout, or assemble pre-cut parts or assist in our efforts to reclaim wood to use again. No experience required! We provide the instructions, tools, and safety equipment. The woodshop can be scheduled for volunteer groups on select weekdays.

All scheduling needs to be done ahead of time. We are only asking for a maximum of 2 volunteers at a time right now.

The need for building varies depending on the need of the families.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio is to provide a free furniture for individuals and families struggling with poverty and other severe life challenges - "Turning Empty Houses Into Homes." The organization was originally "Material Assistance Providers" from 1998-2006, and "MAP Furniture Bank" from 2006-2009.

We collect gently used furniture, appliances and household items, and distribute them free of charge to families trying to move out of difficult situations, which without help, can be emotionally and financially overwhelming. Our work gives these families a better chance at establishing a permanent and nurturing home.
