What: Annual watershed cleanup event
Where: Cleanup: Kingman Island // Celebration: Anacostia Park
When: Saturday, April 24, 8:30AM to 12PM // Celebration 12PM to 3PM
Join EarthShare and the Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS) as we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day on Saturday, April 24, 2010! Our annual event brings together hundreds of volunteers to participate in a massive cleanup along the shores on the Anacostia River in D.C. and tributaries in Maryland. Last year, approximately 2,000 volunteers helped remove more than 60 tons of trash from the Anacostia!
This year, EarthShare is sponsoring the cleanup at Kingman Island. AWS sponsors an additional 30+ sites throughout D.C. and Maryland. Want to help? Come out and get your hands dirty and make a difference! Trash cleanups will take place from 8:30AM to 12PM at all sites throughout the watershed.
As a cleanup volunteer, you'll not only contribute to real, hands-on change in our local environment, but you'll also help us raise awareness about the importance of clean water in the Anacostia and throughout the larger Chesapeake Bay watershed. To sign up now, RSVP below.
All volunteers are invited to our post-clean up celebration at Anacostia Park, featuring a free picnic lunch, music, and presentations by community organizations and government officials. All volunteers will also receive a free, reusable totebag and the satisfaction that comes with taking care of the community we share!
