Mission Statement

To help students in the 11 towns we serve improve their abilities to read, write, and speak English more fluently; improve their working and personal lives; achieve personal and professional fulfillment, however they define it; and become better able to contribute to the community we share.

Description

Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore (LVVS) provides one-to-one tutoring in English literacy skills, in complete confidence and at no cost, to people in the communities of Chester, Clinton, Deep River, Essex, Guilford, Killingworth, Lyme, Madison, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook. The work of LVVS helps those people achieve more rewarding daily lives, at work and in the community. It also helps regional employers get more satisfied, productive employees. LVVS volunteer tutors are selflessly committed to seeing their students succeed - improving their reading and writing skills; becoming more adept at managing their lives, their assets, and their finances; and more easily making their ways in their new but unfamiliar home.

Everyone at LVVS is committed to creating a better future - one student, one tutor, one word at a time.
