We all remember someone other than our parents who singled us out and made us feel special. The Big Brothers Big Sisters School-based program is a unique mentoring program that places volunteers within the school environment to mentor a child one-to-one to influence their academic and social direction. Big Brothers Big Sisters works with area elementary schools to identify vulnerable children who need support and encouragement. Through this one-to-one mentoring relationship the mentor is able to develop a trusting relationship that will influence the child's behavior and decisions. The match is restricted to the confines of the school, and often meets 2 to 4 times a month over the lunch hour. Revisit your childhood, go through the lunch line, pick white or chocalate milk, play a game of Candyland or Old Maid. All fun experiences to connect with a child who needs and wants a positive adult in thier lives.
