Our two main opportunities for volunteers are leading the horse during a therapeutic riding lesson, and side-walking next to the horse to assist the rider during the lesson. The leader does need to have horse experience and feel comfortable with the behaviors of a horse. The side-walkers can have very little to no horse experience necessary - training is provided! The leader's job during the lesson is the handling of the horse, and the side-walker's job is to assist the rider.
Program volunteers may work with individuals with disabilities in our private student program, our Public School program or our Veterans Program.
Lessons are scheduled Mon - Sat from 10 AM - 5 PM and take place at our Johns Island location.
