Interested to support high school students in reaching their academic potential? As a one-on-one tutor, you will work with a Breakthrough student to complete homework, review class material, prepare for tests and develop effective study habits. We particularly seek tutors in higher-level math, science and history, although expertise in all subject areas is welcome.
Commitment: Tutoring is offered Monday and Wednesday at our SJUSD site at Hoover Middle School. As well as, Tuesdays and Thursdays at our FMSD site. Tutoring is not offered on a drop-in basis, but rather students and tutors commit to a regular schedule. So we ask that tutors commit to at least one hour per week and for a full semester to meet with a student on a regular weekly basis. Volunteers are paired with a student (or more if interested) depending on their availability and the subjects in which they are comfortable tutoring.
Location: Sessions can take place at Hoover Middle School at 1635 Park Avenue, San Jose, CA on Mondays and Wednesdays. Or at our TBD location in the Franklin Mc-Kinley school district in East Side San Jose. Preferences for locations are based on tutors and students locations.
