The MoAD docent program is an opportunity for volunteers interested in: Museums, Art Education, African Studies, Diaspora Studies, and Curriculum Development. Under the general direction of the School & Community Outreach Coordinator and with guidance by MoAD staff, the volunteer is a committed member of the Greater Bay Area community who assists in implementing the curriculum and tour goals developed for the Museum. Volunteers facilitate learning experiences for visitors of all ages.
The volunteer must commit to the docent program for a minimum of 6 months, with a commitment to lead tours at least 2 group tours per month. New docents must also attend 4 docent training seminars prior to leading tours. Returning docents are required to attend 1 seminar at the start of each new exhibition to learn about the new programs at MoAD. Docents are encouraged to volunteer at MoAD events and participate in supporting the docent program.
MoAD docents are unpaid volunteers. A MoAD individual membership is offered after 3 months of consecutive service.
