Heartland Hospice is seeking volunteers who speak other languages in addition to English and are available to assist our patients and staff/volunteers during moments of care, signing of documents and other necessary tasks by translating foreign (Non-English) languages into English. Patient assignments would be on an as needed basis with respect to interpreter's availability and level of commitment.
This opportunity can also be coupled with the friendly visitor/companion role for hospice volunteers, allowing for volunteers to form a special and comforting connection with patients who speak the same language. Please see other information listed for friendly visitor / companion volunteers.

Description
Volunteers offer services in office settings, special projects, and direct patient care. Office volunteers provide filing, typing and other administrative support. They also answer phones, assist with workshops, inventory hospice supplies, assemble marketing materials and educational packets and file documentation.
Special project volunteers provide indirect support of patients with arts and crafts as well as other special activities. They make quilts, afghans, bibs, slippers, and lap robes. They create cards for holidays and special occasions. They also man health fair booths and assist with memorial services.
A majority of our volunteers provide direct patient care through friendly visits to homes and facilities. These volunteers provide companionship and emotional support to patients and families through visits, reading, relief sitting, letter writing, preparation of meals, grocery shopping, pet therapy, music and art.
