VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The New Hazlett Theater is seeking committed, ongoing volunteers for evening and matinee performances and special events. Orientation and training provided.
Volunteer Ushers
Be an usher and see a show for free! Ushers help with various duties, including taking tickets and assisting patrons in finding their seats and offering friendly and professional customer service. A black and white business casual dress code is required for all volunteer ushers.
Special Event Volunteers
Special Event Volunteers make events at the New Hazlett Theater possible! Special Event volunteers are responsible for a wide variety of duties leading up to and during large events. Special event volunteering is the ideal opportunity for individuals who would like to get involved with the Theater, but have limited time. Most special events take place in the evening and on weekends. Volunteers will be entered on an on-call email list and will be notified, well in advance, of each special event and be invited to volunteer. Special Event Volunteers will be provided with free access to the event.
Theater programming includes:Dramatic theater, dance, children and family programming, performance art events, spoken word, music, corporate events, and educational programming.

Mission Statement
- To cultivate the arts and provide a venue for world class cultural events
- Provide a functional stage and auditorium to support presentation of live theatrical productions, dance performances, and music events for audiences of 300-500 attendees
- Feature safe and comfortable amenities for audiences and for visiting companies
- Serve as a stable, affordable home for Pittsburgh’s diverse small arts groups, supporting their missions and providing a foundation for their continued growth and development
- Provide professional production support amenities, including modern equipment, knowledgeable technical staff, functional dressing rooms, and flexible production spaces
- Ensure the theater is ADA compliant for patrons, performers and employees with disabilities
- Contribute to the preservation of an historic landmark
- Generate business traffic within the community
- Restore the theater as a productive urban arts destination
- Join the cultural district on the Northside which includes the Children’s Museum, the Andy Warhol Museum, the Carnegie Library, the National Aviary, Artists Image Resource, the Mattress Factory, Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, and the Carnegie Science Center.
Description
The New Hazlett Center for the Performing Arts is the non-profit organization founded in February 2004 to oversee the renovation and launch of the Hazlett Theater as a multi-use performing arts facility.
Arts presenters, producers and artists rent the theater for a range of programs, including dramatic theater, dance, family programming, performance-art events, music, and spoken word performances, among other programming options. Theater offerings appeal to children, families, and adult audiences.
In 2007, the New Hazlett Theater hosted 26,000 visitors and supported the work of 36 partners. We vow to continue to have a positive impact on our partners as they strive to reach the next milestones in their own programming. We will maintain a strong, positive presence in the North Side Community. We have made a conscious choice to do more than simply operate a venue. Our vision is that the New Hazlett Theater serves as a place that nurtures the arts and connects with the community.
