WAVES Volunteer Program for Wake Tech Comm College

Volunteer tutors work one-on-one or in small groups with ESL, high school equivalency ("GED"), or literacy students under the guidance and supervision of a Wake Tech College & Career Readiness volunteer coordinator. Topics include Englsh language practice, GED test prep, basic literacy, and basic math. Average commitment is 2-3 hours per week for a minimum of four months. Due to COVID-19, instruction is being offered online to allow students, instructors, and tutors to engage with each other safely.

Mission Statement

Wake Adults Volunteering Educational Services (WAVES) is the volunteer program fo Wake Tech's College & Career Readiness program. We offer volunteers the opportunity to help adults from all walks of life realize their educational goals and dreams.


Wake Tech's College & Career Readiness Program offers adult education classes throughout Wake County to help adults learn to read, improve math, reading and writing skills, earn a high school or GED diploma, or learn English as a second language. College & Career Readiness classes also help underployed/unemployed persons prepare for employment or further education, developmentally disabled persons acheive their potential, and families strengthen literacy skills and family bonds.
