The tule elk are back in town, and aiming for their summer foraging grounds in higher country. We're working ahead of the herd to modify the existing barbed wire fence, replacing the top wire with smooth so they can bound over without injury. This is easy work in hilly country, so bring your vertical prowess and stamina.
We'll stay over at the field headquarters, which offers showers, kitchen, sofas and beds, as well as a milky-way evening if you prefer to sleep out. Any vehicle can make this trip, though ride shares are a great way to conserve resources and reduce the carbon footprint.

Habitat Works hosts single-day habitat restoration projects, weekend campouts and backpacking trips in Southern California's precious National Forests, private preserves and State and National Parks. Volunteers learn about our own local ecology, native flora and fauna and the challenges they face, and have the hands-on opportunity to improve conditions in Southern California wildlife habitat. Spend time in nature while making a difference - caring for our natural environment. We look forward to meeting and working with you soon!
