The CASA program of Youth Heartline is looking for new volunteers in the northern New Mexico counties of Taos, Colfax, and Union. Volunteers will be extensively trained to be the voice for a child in the court system. The children have been determined to be abused or neglected by the court and are in foster care as the families work towards reunification.
Training is a rigorous national CASA program of 30 hours and the commitment is for at least one year. Expectation is that after training the volunteers will accept cases that can, in some cases, last up to two years.
CASA volunteering, while challenging, is extremely rewarding. You will be part of a fantastic community of committed volunteers and make many new friends. You will have the opprtunity to learn and experience the court system first hand. But most importantly, you will have the satisfaction of helping to improve the life chances of a child who needs you.
Email casa@youthheartline.org or phone Yasmin at 575-758-0106 for more details and an application.
