Friends Connection provides opportunities for volunteer to engage with individuals with developmental disabilities in a community setting. Exceptional Family Resources holds 2 to 3 monthly events in the community for the group. Some past events have been going to sporting events, having cook outs, going to plays and other shows, going out to eat, special events depending on the season (e.g. Friendsgiving, Halloween Party, 4th of July Cookout) and various other recreational options in the Greater Syracuse area. Volunteers also have the opportunity to participate in individual activities with members of the group. This is something the program supervisors can facilitate if someone is interested. The age range for participants is 18 and above and they do not age out of the program. Volunteers are reimbursed up to $12.00 for recreation expenses, and up to $6.00 per outing for transportation.

Mission Statement
Exceptional Family Resources (EFR) partners with individuals with disabilities and their families, providing services, information, advocacy and other supports to enhance lives and foster community acceptance.
Description
EFR began in 1978 when a group of parents united to provide information, support, advocacy and respite services to families whose sons or daughters have developmental disabilities. From those roots, we have branched out to a family centered, non-profit, multi-service agency with a staff of 31. We also use volunteers, providers and independent contractors to help provide direct services.
