Love reading and learning? Interested in helping to make a possitive impact on your community? Consider volunteering as a board member of Friends of READ Orange County, a nonprofit organization supporting and promoting adult literacy efforts throughout Orange County with OC READ, the adult literacy services of OC Public Libraries.

Board Members meet monthly, plan & support outreach & tutor training efforts, and promote adult literacy efforts throughout Orange County. Friends of READ OC support and recognize the volunteer tutors & adult learners who participate in OC READ's adult literacy tutoring services.

FROC board members meet monthly, promote adult literacy and volunteer opportunities related to literacy efforts throughout Orange County. They enjoy outreach and public relations efforts focused on the importance of a literate community, fundraising opportunities to provide learning materials and books for volunteer tutors' and adult learners' use. Friends of READ OC host recognition events to celebrate the learning efforts of adult learners and their volunteer tutors. They also strive to generate a greater awareness and support of adult literacy and lifelong learning efforts throughout Orange County.

The mission of READ/Orange County is to create a more literate community by providing diversified services of the highest quality to all who seek them.

Description

READ/Orange County provides no cost, direct one-to-one or small group tutoring in reading and writing to adults and families requesting these services. Lessons are individualized, confidential and highly goal-oriented. Trained volunteer tutors structure the learning process around the goals of the learner, using material that relates to those goals.
