Burlington County RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) is seeking volunteers to teach their "Take Control of Your Health Chronic Disease Self-Management" Program. Free peer leader training enables volunteers to teach people with chronic conditions and caregivers to: 1) manage symptoms, 2) get started with healthy eating and exercise, 3) communicate effectively with your doctor and health care team, 4) manage fear, anger and frustration, 5) make daily tasks easier, and 6) get more out of life. No previous knowledge about chronic illness is necessary since teaching is done from a detailed manual that is used as a script. Upon completion, peer leaders will facilitate the 6-week, 2.5 hour per week Take Control of Your Health workshop with groups of 8-18 people who have one or more chronic conditions.

For information on the program and training, please email Karen Bennett at kbennett@bcc.edu, or call 609-894-9311, x 1499.

Description

Make a Difference in Your Community!

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers can choose an opportunity that allows them to volunteer as little or as much as they would like each month, serving through schools, adult day care centers, the tax program, health related educational programming and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
