ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross Pikes Peak Chapter

Position Title:

Disaster Action Team (DAT) Member. Assists local Red Cross Chapter in delivering relief to victims of disaster and helping prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Red Cross Mission and relief efforts
  • Respond to disaster scenes as assigned by Team Captain within 2 hours of notification
  • Provide services to clients in a compassionate and caring manner while respecting their cultural diversity
  • Provide Red Cross services (food, clothing, shelter) to disaster victims
  • Complete all American Red Cross forms at disaster site and provide to DAT Captain
  • Provide referrals to other agencies
  • Attend monthly DAT meetings
  • Notify Captain of availability changes when they occur

  • Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance
  • Fundamentals of Disaster Assessment
  • Mass Care Overview
  • Psychological First Aid
  • Client Assistance Support online classes (Recommended)
  • Shelter Operations (Recommended)
  • Shelter Simulation (Recommended)
  • Yearly CPR/ AED (Recommended)
  • First Aid certification every 3 years (Recommended)
  • Serving the Diverse Community (Recommended)
  • Working Together: Paid and Volunteer Staff Relationships (Recommended)
