Bon Secours Hospice volunteers are very special! They are friendly visitors providing emotional support and socialization. They also are Hospice helpers who may run errands, read, write letters, journal/life review, complete small chores, and provide caregiver respite. Our Hospice volunteers go through an initial training program as well as get sent ongoing education about hospice care. They have impeccable backgrounds as they are required to have criminal background checks and references. Our volunteers are part of an interdisciplinary team concept of care. They are valued by the Hospice team and respected as an intricate part of the team. Come join us in this amazing end-of-life care. Our volunteers repeat this over and over again: "It is both an honor and a privilege to become a part of someone's life at this time." Volunteers are needed in Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and Yorktown as we serve patients throughout the entire Hampton Roads area. Make a change in your life and the lives of others today! Become a Hospice volunteer!

About Bon Secours Hospice (Hampton Roads)

Location:

3636 High Street, Portsmouth, VA 23707, US

Mission Statement

Bon Secours Hampton Roads

Rooted in our Catholic Health Ministry, we will be known as the leading health care system in providing compassionate and innovative care for the whole person. Through our employees and in collaboration with our physicians and other partners, we will seek to improve the health of our community

Description

Bon Secours Hospice provides an individualized program of physical, emotional, spiritual, and practical care for people in the last phases of a life-limiting illness, with an emphasis on control of pain and other symptoms. The program is reflective of a spirit and idea of caring that emphasizes comfort and dignity for the dying, making it possible for them to remain independent for as long as possible, in familiar surroundings. Hospice care is centered on both the patient and family/caregiver. Hospice personnel respect and respond to the unique differences in family/caregiver, lifestyle, values, and wishes.

Utilizing an interdisciplinary group approach of physicians, nurses, social workers, therapists, homemakers, hospice aides, volunteers, spiritual counselors, bereavement counselors, and others, Bon Secours Hospice provides palliative care in the home, short-term inpatient services, mobilization and coordination of ancillary services, and bereavement support. Services will be equitably distributed to a medically and financially diversified group of patients in a cost-effective manner which ensures adherence to the goals of Bon Secours Hospice and the maintenance of the financial solvency of the organization.

Hospice affirms life.

Hospice exists to provide support and care for persons in the last phases of a life-limiting illness so that they may live as fully and comfortably as possible.

Hospice exists in the belief that through appropriate care and the promotion of a caring community, patients and family/caregivers will be free to attain a degree of mental preparation for death that is satisfying to them.
