Construction:
Volunteering on a construction site requires no previous experience - we teach all the building skills necessary on-site. We perform almost all tasks with our volunteers excluding foundation, plumbing, electrical, and roofing. We typically run construction Wednesdays through Saturdays, with some variations. You are more than welcome to gather a group and schedule a build with friends, faith community, or your job. An ideal-sized group would consist of about 8-12 individuals, but we can fit individuals and groups of 3 or more. Construction work days are typically from 7:30-1:30p or 8:30 am - 2:30 pm depending on the season., and the tasks vary from week to week - anything from framing walls to installing door knobs. Specific job site locations vary but are all in Eastern Jackson County. Women Build is in May a fun opportunity to focus on getting women out to our build sites the week leading up to mothers day. Contact us to help plan that as well.

All of our volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Youth age 16-17 must be supervised by responsible adults at a ratio of not less than one adult over the age of 21 for every four youth.

You are also more than welcome to gather a group and schedule a group build with friends, faith community, or your coworkers. We ask that groups are no larger than 12 people. We require everyone to wear closed-toed shoes and ask for appropriate clothing (please consider the weather and work conditions). No skills or tools are needed, just a willingness to learn new skills and to volunteer. Tasks vary from week to week - anything from framing walls to installing door knobs.

If interested, contact Mark Schroer at MSchroer@Trumanhabitat.org 816-461-6551, and we will get you on our volunteer schedule. Thank you for your interest!
