WHAT: After School Literacy Program

In the Fall of 2009, H.O.O.P. adapted the "Triple A Tutoring" (Academic Achievement Assistance) literacy program. This format institutes a triangular connection between parents, school, and H.O.O.P. in monitoring and maintaining the youth's progress. This program seeks to increase parental involvement and instills the "village concept" in helping students achieve academic success. In the late/early Winter of 2009, H.O.O.P. established a partnership with Basic Basketball to provide 20-45 students for the after-school literacy program.

WHEN: Monday and Wednesday from 600 PM to 715 PM

WHERE: 434 S. Grevillea St.Inglewood, CA 90301

WHY: Additional educational resources are necessary to ensure that children will be able to compete and thrive in the new global economy. We offer reasonably priced afterschool literacy program. Tutors help youth catch up, catch on, keep up or move ahead. Tutors needed for individual assessments, and follow up of elementary, middle, high school and college students in math, reading, English Geometry, History, Economics, and other subjects. Test preparation for SAT, ACT, and CASSHE.

NEEDS: Student Interns- to assist in the increasing number of students.

Materials (books, pencils, papers etc.) Funding- Cash, Check or money order (internet, printing, materials, etc.)

Description

Our measurements of our youth achieving these individual objectives are: Promote Physical and Healthy Lifestyle Skills: Improve Academic Skills: Develop Social Skills and Cultural Awareness: And enhance Spiritual Skills: We will measure our youth based on their willingness to participate in our community outreach events. HOOP’s goal is for youth to recognize the importance of service before self. Instill Integrity and Truth: HOOP will assist our youth in developing their personal goals plan. We will review the plan with the youth and their parents.
