Sort donated medical supplies bound for Central and South America: Ecuador, Chile, Haiti, Peru, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador,.

We have a never-ending stream of donated supplies and medical equipment that VIDA ships by sea to Latin America year round.

What we need is volunteers to sort medical supplies - Monday thru Friday. Typically three hours at a time.
VIDA is a simple, laid-back place to volunteer with a dedicated and appreciative staff.

This is easy and anyone is welcome. A three hour stint is perfect - but 2 hours is productive as well.

You can start when you want and finish when you want - but 2-5 is a popular time frame and you will find others volunteering as well. Thursday afternoons are popular with our regular volunteers who come every week. They are pros at sorting and provide a good support system as you learn.

This is a great opportunity for NURSES, EMTs, MEDICAL STUDENTS, as a knowledge of medical supplies is especially helpful. Your special skills can be of great assistance.

All are welcome. Please come on in - even on the spur of the moment.
No need to wait for confirmation - just head on over to VIDA USA!

Mission Statement

Volunteers for Inter-American Development (VIDA) provides assistance to health institutions and development projects that support people in need in Latin America, regardless of race, religion, or politics. VIDA was founded in response to the cholera epidemic that broke out in Peru in early 1991, and due to inadequate health care and poor sanitary conditions, quickly spread to neighboring Latin American Countries. Since that time, VIDA has extended its efforts throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, shipping over 152 ocean containers carrying more than $114 million worth of medical aid to Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru.

Description

VIDA works in partnership with local Bay Area health insitutions, clinics and individuals to collect surplus medical goods and reusable medical equipment to give life to others, by shipping much needed supplies and equipment to underserved communities in Latin America and divert valuable medical supplies from local landfills.
