AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Reading Buddies is an innovative early-childhood literacy development program which advances literacy skills and creates enthusiastic, confident young readers in 10 public schools throughout Monmouth County. Reading Buddies links more than 100 volunteers, primarily seniors, with over 800 elementary-aged students. On a weekly basis our readers visit the schools during the day for one hour and read aloud to students, in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and/or first grade. Each week the volunteer reads to the same four or five students creating a bond and helping to foster a love of books.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Monmouth County , RSVP,helps individuals 55 years of age and older find meaningful volunteer assignments with non- profit and public service organizations in an effort to meet critical needs of the community .
Description
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
