How? By being an Activity Assistant volunteer.

This opportunity is with an agency that is dedicated to helping frail elders and people with chronic illnesses or disabilities. They come to the agency to get out for awhile and see other people. By giving them a place to go and something to do, you stimulate their lives and help them look forward to living somewhat normally for at least a few hours.

By volunteering you help clients have a better quality of life. You assist clients with activities, crafts, exercises and serve coffee. Activities include word games, puzzles, crafts, chess, dominoes, discussion groups, exercise groups and active games.

These active games can include balloon volleyball, indoor bowling and ball toss.
This activity helps clients feel successful and positive about what they can accomplish during their day program.

You must also have the ability to maintain confidentiality and professional demeanor.

Volunteers are needed Mon-Fri 9:30 to 3:00 p.m.
A minimum time commitment is required to be 6 hours per month on an ongoing basis

The site is handicapped accessible and parking is provided (including handicapped parking). Location is on major bus route. All volunteers will be provided emergency/disaster orientation of the site.

Community accomplishment received will allow seniors and disabled clients to live at home rather than in an institution. This will prevent caregiver "burn-out" and reduction of their stress level. This prevents elder abuse and neglect.

This opportunity is posted by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, dedicated to helping persons over 55 find meaningful volunteer experiences in their communities.-FLC
