Mission Statement
The Boston Home, established in 1881, is an 84-bed, not-for-profit, long-term care facility for adults with physical disabilities, primarily multiple sclerosis (MS) and related neurological diseases. Our goal is to be a leader in developing, organizing, and providing residential health and related services for adults with physical disabilities through innovative and expanded services to support individual needs. At different times open to men, women and children with various medical conditions, the Home has always cared for those whose disability affected the physical rather than the mental sphere. The mission of the Home today remains essentially the same: to provide a caring community where physically disabled adults live with dignity and purpose.
Description
The Boston Home is an 84-bed, not-for-profit, long-term care facility for adults with physical disabilities, primarily multiple scleroses (MS) and related neurological diseases. People with MS, and similar neurological conditions, face unique challenges. MS can impair a person's coordination, ability to speak, move and see, as well as affect short-term memory and cognitioin. Due to the rate of occurrence of MS, most residents are ages 30 to 60, with about 75% women. The Boston Home is the only residence of its kind in New England, with only two others similar to it in the United States. Clinical services, environment of care, and quality of life define the spectrum of services, functions and programs offered. From the first converted farmhouse to the state-of-the-art facility constructed in 1994, the mission of The Boston Home has been to provide a caring community where physically disabled adults live with dignity and purpose.
