We are looking for compasionate people to drive people 50 and over and people who are visually impaired 18 and over to go to events and appointments. You will use your own car and we reimburse you $.40 per mile. You donate your time. Rides needed are online and you can pick the ones that fit your schedule.
This program is unique. We have no restriction on the purpose of a ride. We take people to lunch, to visit friends, visit cemetaries and go to work.
We are in the middle of a Silver Tsunami! In Bloomfield, for example, 25% of the population is over 65. By 2025 this will grow to 31%. 45% of residents are 50+ versus 35% statewide.
In our ten towns there are 70,124 people over 50. They will most likely live 6-10 years beyond their ability to drive. We can not leave them homebound!
We are flexible regarding the time you have available. Our software even can allow you to pick the rides that you have time for.

We believe that transportation is a link to independence, quality of life and social interaction. We provide door-through-door community-based and community-supported transportation for seniors and the visually impaired 365 days a year year.
Description
Nutmeg Senior Rides, Inc.changes lives one ride at a time. We provide transportation in private cars for seniors over 50 and the visually impaired over 18 in the towns of Bloomfield, East Granby, East Windsor, Enfield, Granby, Somers, South Windsor, Suffield, Windsor and Windsor Locks. Members pay a $40 annual fee for individuals and affordable charges for each ride.
Up to 2 miles $5 each way
3-5 miles $10 each way
6-7 miles $14 each way
8-13 miles $19 each way
Over 14 miles $25 each way
We rely on a combination of volunteer and paid drivers and are available for extended hours when you plan ahead.
