The mission of A Wider Circle is simple: to end poverty for one individual and one family after another. We work in partnership with those we serve and with those seeking to help, to ensure that every child and adult has the chance to succeed and the opportunity to live well.
Join the movement to end poverty by volunteering with our Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program. A Wider Circle’s largest program, provides furniture and other home items to families moving out of shelters or otherwise living without their basic need items. Families are referred to us by more than 300 social service agencies throughout Maryland, D.C., and Virginia. The most commonly requested items are beds, dressers, and kitchen tables, truly the basic necessities for the home. By providing these items to families in need, A Wider Circle is helping to create the stability and independence that all families deserve.
Neighbor-to-Neighbor volunteers may:
- Help load client's vehicles
- Restock showroom floor
- Sort and organize donations
- Join our team out on the trucks and pick up donations
- Drive a 16 foot box truck!
For pick-ups, volunteers need to be mature and strong enough to carry half of a sleeper sofa. Those on trucks will be on a route in MD, DC, or VA and will pick up items from four to eight homes.
Opportunities are available, Monday - Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
