Spend five weeks in the Dominican Republic teaching children arts & crafts, sports, music, dance and other summer camp activities. Learn more at www.dominicandream.org. The DREAM Project is looking for volunteers for its 5-week summer camp program. The camp was developed for children ages 8 to 14 who are critically in need of academic help, with many being one or more levels behind in school. Volunteers work side by side with Dominican staff in a group effort that crosses language and cultural barriers to promote the exchange of ideas, strategies and methods in teaching and activities.

Every volunteer must provide proof of vaccination with their application. Participants must be fully vaccinated two weeks prior to arrival and must be available to attend entire camp.

Cost: $2250 per volunteer covers training, housing, 3 meals a day during the work time, field trips, drinking water, airport transfers to Puerto Plata airport only, oversight and program costs. The fee is waived for certified teachers with 3+ years of teaching experience.

REQUIREMENTS Intermediate-advanced Spanish language skills are required. The level of proficiency will be used to determine available placements. Must be 18 at the start of the program. Must have experience teaching or working with children.

We are looking forward to having you volunteer with us this summer!

Mission Statement

The Dominican Republic Education And Mentoring (DREAM) Project is a US 501c3 nonprofit organization believes that quality early and continuing education is the most effective way to break the cycle of poverty and change destinies. Our mission is to run inclusive, sustainable education programs for children and youth in the Dominican Republic that can be replicated throughout impoverished global communities.

Description

Our dream is that all children and youth in the Dominican Republic have equal opportunities to learn and realize their full potential through transformative education programs that combat the effects of poverty. We believe that learning changes lives. Our programs extend from early childhood through young adulthood, empowering at-risk children and youth to create a better future for themselves and their families through literacy, high-quality Montessori preschool education, youth leadership, music instruction and community enrichment programs. We ensure successful results through quality data collection, careful analysis and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. Our innovative approach effectively addresses local needs and can be adapted to and replicated throughout high-poverty global communities.
