Accompany Elders to Housing Interviews

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Hearth, Inc.

  • 25 people are interested

Many of Hearth's current Outreach clients would benefit from the help of volunteers to provide transportation and accompany them to housing interviews around Greater Boston.

Many of these interviews are scheduled in cities or towns that are just beyond the reach of MBTA bus and subway service, so our clients would benefit greatly from a volunteer willing to pick them up and drive them to their respective housing interview's, starting them on their journey back to having a place to call home!

Ideal volunteers would be retired, semi-retired, or not currently working and would be able to volunteer during the day on weekdays. Volunteers would normally be notified up to a week in advance that someone would need transportation.

Mission Statement

Hearth is a non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of homelessness among the elderly. This mission is accomplished through a unique blend of prevention, placement, and housing programs all designed to help elders find and succeed in homes of their own. To this end, all housing operated by Hearth provides a creative array of supportive services that assist residents to age with dignity, regardless of their special medical, mental health, or social needs. Hearth believes these goals are best accomplished through respect for elders and staff, with the desire to see both achieve their highest degree of potential.

Description

About Hearth:

Since 1991, we’ve created 228 units of permanent affordable homes across Greater Boston, each with the support services this unique population needs. Hearth is committed to placing elders in service-enriched housing, promoting as much self-sufficiency as possible by providing or connecting elders with the services they require: Health and Behavioral Health Services. Individual service plans are created to fit the unique needs of each resident.

Hearth’s Outreach & Prevention Programs provide a comprehensive set of services to homeless and at-risk elders to help them reestablish their lives within permanent and affordable housing in and around the City of Boston.

As of 2021, marking our 30th year, we have housed over 2,800 elders and provided additional services to even more!
