We are looking for small groups of volunteers (up to 9 people) or individuals to help serve dinner at one of our homeless shelters, Next Door or Sanctuary Shelter. The food is prepared by staff cooks, but volunteers are needed to help serve the meal. There are two dinner shifts: one from 5:00PM - 6:00PM and the second from 6:30PM - 7:30PM, each begins with a short orientation and continues with food plating and clean up.

There’s a lot of room for interaction and connection with shelter residents as they receive their dinner meal. Some of the older clients and those with disabilities need extra assistance from volunteers to bring their meal directly to their table. Whether volunteers decide to sign up once a month, quarterly or as a one-time activity, it’s always a fun and worthwhile experience. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. Volunteers don’t need to bring anything except for themselves. Check out our interactive web calendar of meal serving opportunities.

We hope you decide to volunteer. If you or someone you know is interested please contact Emily San Nicolas, ECS Volunteer and Events Coordinator, at (415) 487-3300 x2741 or esannicolas@ecs-sf.org

Mission Statement

Our mission is to help homeless and very low-income people every day and night obtain the housing, jobs, shelter and essential services each person needs to prevent and end homelessness.

Description

Episcopal Community Services (ECS) has provided essential services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in San Francisco since 1983, utilizing a holistic approach that addresses the multiple causes leading to homelessness. This past year, we served more than 13,000 people, guided by our mission to help homeless and very low-income people every day and every night obtain the housing, jobs, shelter, and essential services each person needs to prevent and end homelessness.
The complex nature of homelessness calls for a multi-faceted solution. ECS serves adults and children through a range of services, including the City’s Adult Coordinated Entry (ACE), supportive housing, employment and education programs, healthy aging, information and referral resources, reentry housing and support services, interim housing, and behavioral health services.
