Position Description: SHIELD is a heavily volunteer-driven agency. Recruitment, retention, and recognition of volunteers are very important to the successful daily operation of the SHIELD Mentor Program. A volunteer in this area would assist the Program Coordinator in such duties as responding to inquiries by potential volunteers, confirming volunteer schedules, assembling volunteer orientation packets, answering phones, and processing volunteer data.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow the existing recruitment plan and build upon it with new tactics and connections
  • Develop new volunteer recruitment strategies considering both program and geographical needs
  • Ensure SHIELD Mentor Program is top of mind on college campuses by developing and implementing a recruitment plan
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator to recruit at least 12 Mentors and 6 Eagle Meri t Leadership Advisors from local colleges, businesses and community partners
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to build relationships with SHIELD participants, Greensboro residents, and local elementary, middle and high schools to recruit at least 35 youth mentees
  • Assist with the open house, orientation and screening events as part of the mentor and mentee process
  • Communicates with community personnel, families, referral agencies and other organizations on behalf of SHIELD
  • Ensure that personnel files for the program are properly maintained and kept confidential
  • MUST be available for the Awards Ceremony in late-April
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, journalism, marketing or a related field
  • An interest and commitment to the programs, goals and objectives of the SHIELD Mentor Program
  • Exhibits energy and enthusiasm and an interest in working in the nonprofit sector
  • Discretion handling confidential information
  • Strong computer skills with PC knowledge (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and ability to use online platforms such as cloud storage (i.e. OneDrive)
  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work and manage multiple priorities on deadline
  • Ability to learn quickly and assume responsibility in a small but active organization
  • Effective organizational and project management skills
  • Must have the ability to work independently
  • Must be well organized and able to multitask
  • Must be able to take feedback from multiple parties and be able to find compromises that work for all
  • Extremely organized, resourceful, and have attention to detail
  • Maintains excellent writing and language skills
  • Punctual and dependable, able to adjust the schedule to meet business demands.
  • Excellent writing skills, attention to detail and ability to create concise messaging.
  • Must have own transportation
