TOUCH (Therapy of Unique Canine Helpers) Dog Program at the Siteman Cancer Center

Trained volunteers and their personal dogs present animal assisted activities to patients waiting for cancer treatment and therapy. We collaborate with trained handlers and certified dogs from two organizations: DUO Dogs, Inc. 314-997-2325, www.duodogs.org or CHAMP Assistance Dogs 314-485-1264.

Responsibilities include:

  • Volunteer handler escorts dog or stays in a specified visit location in the main waiting area to interact with patients, caregivers and visitors to foster touching, or other interactions with visiting dog and handler.
  • Greets patients and visitors and encourages interaction.

The Navigator will assist the patient and family members retrieve information about cancer, prepare for treatments and visits to cancer specialists, and provide access to support services in the community.
