SOS Outreach's programs build character and self-esteem in youth through outdoor activities and the SOS Core Values of courage, discipline, integrity, wisdom and compassion. We partner with local youth-serving agencies, schools, and resorts to provide multi-day programs that incorporate snowsports, mentorship, civic engagement, and positive experiences.
We are looking for Volunteers for our Learn to Ride programs at our programs on Mt. Hood. Volunteers have a unique opportunity to serve as a positive role model by providing attention and encouragement to each student. Tasks may include:
Helping to outfit the kids with clothing and rental equipment each morning
Tracking attendance and equipment updates
Demonstrating skills and techniques on the hill
Working one on one with kids who need extra support on the hill
Taking kids inside for hot chocolate and bathroom breaks
Supporting with injured youth
Integrating the SOS core values of courage, discipline, Integrity, wisdom, and compassion
Sharing your love for snow sports with SOS youth!
As consistency is key with providing a stable and positive experience with the kids, it is required that volunteers attend all five ride days in the session. Dates are TBD, but generally run November through March.
So that we might provide the highest quality technical instruction and character development curriculum, it is also mandatory that volunteer instructors attend training covering the SOS Outreach curriculum and core values. Background check required.
Location - Mt. Hood, OR (Meadows, SkiBowl, and Timberline) How to Apply: Online volunteer applications can be found in the "Get Involved" section of the SOS website, www.sosoutreach.org. Potential volunteer instructors should complete and submit the "New Instructor Form."

Description
SOS Outreach’s mission is to transform the lives of underserved youth by delivering long-term life skills development through progressive outdoor adventure-based programs. With a unique combination of outdoor adventure experiences, positive adult mentorship and leadership development opportunities, SOS Outreach enables youth to unleash their potential to thrive. Last year alone, SOS served 4,829 youth across 22,618 program days, making SOS a program leader across the country. While providing outdoor recreation experiences for that number of youth is impressive, it is only a partial demonstration of SOS Outreach’s impact. Through continuous, multi-faceted youth development programming SOS witnesses personal transformations and changed realities daily.
