ArtWorks for Milwaukee, Inc.

Founded in 2001, ArtWorks for Milwaukee is actively growing and increasing its impact on our city’s youth. ArtWorks uses arts-based internships to engage teens in reaching their potential by developing 21st Century Skills, which are critical in today’s workplace.

Every year, ArtWorks receives over 400 applications for the limited number of paid internship positions we can offer. In the past few years, we have built capacity and expanded to a three-tier program to accommodate more of the students who can benefit from ArtWorks’ programs. We have doubled the number of teens served from 50 to 100 through a combination of paid and unpaid internships.

As ArtWorks expands its internship programs to engage more youth, we're seeking leaders in the community to join our Board of Directors. We are looking for community leaders with expertise and networks in human resources, law, fundraising, finance and accounting, marketing and public relations, event planning, program development and evaluation, workforce development, entrepreneurship, and the arts, youth and community development.

Board Directors serve two-year terms and demonstrate a passion for ArtWorks’ mission:

"Strengthening Milwaukee’s workforce through arts internships that help teens develop career skills."

ArtWorks has each Board Director complete a "Give, Get, Do" commitment, which is described below.

  1. "Give" - We ask that each Board Director include ArtWorks as one of his/her top 3 charitable donations in a given year. There is no expectation of a specific donation amount or quota. However, ArtWorks would prefer to have a 100% giving Board and encourages each director to make a significant financial contribution based on their capacity.
  2. "Get" - We ask that each Board Director actively advocate for ArtWorks and participate in fundraising activities. That could include reaching out to an employer, colleagues, or individuals in their network for monetary and/or in-kind donations.
  3. "Do" - In addition to attending monthly board meetings, we ask each Board Director to actively participate or chair a board committee, work on a project,or volunteer in some capacity during their time on the board.

If you are interested in finding out more about ArtWorks and becoming part of a working Board that can help shape the future of a small organization and impact the lives of high school students, we invite you to contact ArtWorks Executive Director, Terry Murphy by email at director@artworksformilwaukee.org or by phone at 414-708-9996.
